Westminster Reimagined: From Empire to Commonwealth
You are warmly invited to a roundtable discussion held at Westminster Abbey inspired by The World in a Waterlily, Amazonica by Nicola Green which was on display at the Abbey as part of The World Reimagined trail.
This conversation will be facilitated by poet Zena Edwards, and delivered in partnership between Westminster Abbey and Poet in the City.
Nicola’s globe was designed on the theme of ‘Reimagining the Future’. It explores the impact of the transatlantic trade in enslaved Africans on depictions of angels and the whitewashing of the divine; the intersection of climate justice and racial justice (with a band of greenery across the middle of her globe depicting the Guiana Shield); the exploitation of people and land in the name of exploration.
The impact of those actions are still with us today and Nicola sought to address that in her globe, helping us reimagine a future where we acknowledge our interconnectedness and move forward together.
