A Love Letter to Woolwich
What does your High Street mean to you? What memories have you made there? Join Poet in the City for the premiere of The Woolwich Epic, a film featuring a poem by local resident and poet Rasheeda Page-Muir, as well as music from local artists and discussions around the importance of the streets we call home.
Over the last six months, Poet in the City has been working with the Royal Borough of Greenwich to facilitate the creation of new artwork that celebrates Woolwich high street’s history and local people. The project was developed in response to regeneration plans for Woolwich and has a purpose to illuminate voices from the high street, forge new connections across communities and use creativity to re-imagine the high street for current and new generations.
Supported by youth-led local social enterprise RevolYOUtion, poet Rasheeda Page-Muir spoke to a range of local community activists and organisations and in response, wrote The Woolwich Epic. The poem has been made into a film by Greenwich-based Crixus Productions and emerging filmmakers Salima Kamara and Riordan Tyson, garnered from memories of local residents and archival footage of Woolwich.
Featuring conversations with local artists, music and poetry, we invite you to join in the conversation and to tell us a memory of your local high street.
