A Look Back At 2020

We have worked with many inspiring partners, artists and freelancers this year and in closing 2020 at Poet in the City, I’d like to recognise their incredible work and our appreciation of their creative collaboration. A particular shout out goes to our freelancers, the creative geniuses behind the scenes who you might not know but without whom our work wouldn’t be possible – to Nadine Fletcher, RevolYOUtion (Tolu, Fawazat, Mya), Marina Da Silva, Raj Dhunna, Bea Colley, Victoria Bastable, Claire Coxhill, Lemzi, Cathy Waller, Bohdan Piasecki, Zoe Olaru, Jess Lipington, Annalisa Toccara, Rachel Horton, Yvette Hawkins, Joanna Jowett, Isabel Sachs, Eleni Stavrou, Smart Banda, Sarah Metcalff, Wayne Gamble, Marion Bortella, Hannah Burgess and Dan Loops.

As ever, a huge thank you to our volunteers and board for everything you do, and of course to you, our audiences – you are all a crucial part of our community and we can’t wait to see you again. A personal thank you to Janet Fischer, our Interim Chief Executive for being a crucial part of the Poet in the City family last year, and for leading us through this period.

We are fortunate enough to end this year with great excitement about what lies ahead: a year of commissioning around feminist activism in Exeter and Newcastle, the national launch of Poet in the City Producers, Grassroots Visions – a season of shows (some live ones, we hope!) exploring connections between poetry, change-makers and activist movements, and community collaborations in Greenwich and Hounslow.
